Modern Architecture - Stone Towers: Cairo

Modern Architecture @ Zaha Hadid Architects
Zaha Hadid Architects have unveiled plans for a new project called the Stone Towers in Cairo, Egypt. Providing office and retail facilities to a rapidly expanding Cairo, the unique 5.6 million square foot (525,000 sq m) Stone Towers development also includes a five-star business hotel with serviced apartments.

Inspired by the patterns and textures of ancient Egyptian stonework, the north and south facades of each tower will be covered with recesses and protrusions emphasizing the effects of light and shadow on the surfaces.

“There is a overwhelming need in Egypt for developments of the highest international standards required by the serious and growing investment climate of the country - ultimately contributing to making it a hub for multinationals in the region. The Stone Towers needed an architect with daring ideas, innovation, international expertise and experience…it needed Zaha Hadid.” -Hisham Shoukri, CEO of Rooya Group

Absolute Towers also known as Absolute World are two interesting residential towers built in Mississauga, near Toronto, Canada. Rare and unique design made those towers stand out among others.

Designed by MAD Architects, those two towers will attract everyone's attention. They are new landmark for Mississauga, suburb right next to Toronto. Tower 1, the taller one, is 167m tall with 56 floors, while Tower 2 is  151m tall with 50 floor.

"In place of the simple, functional logic of modernism, our design expresses the complex and multiple needs of contemporary society. This building is more than just a functional machine: it responds to the significance of being located at the junction of two main streets, elegantly bearing its landmark status and acting as a gateway to the city beyond. It is something beautiful, sculptural and human."

Amazing Architecture: Busan Opera House by OODA, Busan, South Korea

Amazing Architecture: Busan Opera House by OODA, Busan, South Korea

OODA Architecture Team designed this fascinating piece of amazing architecture for international competition in 2011. We could describe this proposal for Busan's new opera house in many words, but ordinary is not one of them.

Trying to blur difference between nature and building, architects came up with this incredible shell-like design which should become new landmark for South Korea.

"The Multi Purpose Theatre has its own identity and articulation. According the design concept it could be used from multiple perspectives and programmatic needs.

The auxiliary facilities (high level restaurants, café/bars, shopping, convention center, exhibition space, banquet hall, event room, etc) flows all along the both main structures creating a perfect bind between all.
The building envelope is devised as a continuous skin that is embedded with multiple levels of program. Natural light, cross ventilation, access and views become the key operators of the transition between interior and exterior.

The organic morphology blends perfectly with the landscape and it´s designed to become landscape and to symbolize the new Busan Spirit and identity."
